In our attempts to be healthy and reach our goals there are just some foods that it’s hard to go without. I don’t know about you but sometimes I’m just in the mood to have a burger and fries. I don’t necessarily always want the gross, greasy, ‘why’d I eat that’ feeling that can come along with enjoying a traditional burger. That’s where this lovely recipe comes in! Gus and I have eaten these the past 2 Sundays here and definitely enjoyed it. He even got into the spirit of sharing the recipe and helped me take pictures! 🙂
One thing that you probably know if you’ve made any of my recipes is that they aren’t too complex. I’m no master chef or foodie, just a person trying my best to be healthy in a world of limitless less than healthy options :D.
Probably my absolute favorite part of this meal is the ‘fries’. I’m a huge fan of potatoes (something you probably also know if you’ve seen any of my live Instagram videos) I cut them to be more fry like in the picture but you can really do whatever you want here. Just keep in mind the bigger the pieces are, the longer it’s going to take to cook them!
2 large Potatoes (you can use any kind here.. red, sweet, russet)
Sea salt to taste
1 Tbsp Grass fed butter (coconut or avocado oil can be used here as well) if you want to use less oil, just lightly grease the bottom of the pan
Stove top pan with a lid
Cut up potatoes into small chunks or longer thin fry shaped pieces (have to say eating the fry pieces it’s always a little more fun :D).
Melt butter or coconut oil in a pan stove top.
Add potatoes to pan on medium heat, lightly salt and cover.
Stir them every few minutes so the bottoms don’t burn.
Allow them to cook for about 20 minutes before trying one to see if they’re done! You can do all of the burger cooking while those sit and are just occasionally stirred!
Grass Fed (preferably) Beef
Onion Soup Mix ( I made my own: Dried onions, garlic powder, pepper, Italian seasoning mix)
Some type of grill or stove top pan again
Mix your onion soup mixture into 16 ounces of ground beef.
Separate into 4 patties. Don’t pack them too tight, let them be a little loose and imperfect, they’ll cook better!
Cook! We happened to receive a Foreman Grill for our wedding and that was the easiest way for me to make these so if you have one of those, cook on 350 for 3-6 minutes just depending on how done you like them!
If you don’t have any type of grill, you can make these in a pan! It’s also super easy.
If you’re using the same pan you just cooked the fries in, I’d just throw the patties right on. If you’re using a new pan, turn it to medium heat, and melt a little oil first (butter or coconut is still fine), try just 1/2 a TBSP or less if you’d like!
Place the patties and cook for a few minutes until they’re done to your preference. Again, it’s going to be quick! Try 3-4 minutes per side depending on how done you like them!
Serve these up in lettuce wraps topped with anything from tomatoes and onion to bacon and avocado! Enjoy!
