Healthier Graham Crackers

Healthier Graham Crackers Recipe - lose all those nasty ingredients in the store bought version! | www.sugarysixpack.com

S’mores season is right around the corner! That means graham crackers, which you probably haven’t eaten or thought about for the entire summer, are going to be back in demand! Because let’s face it, there’s nothing like a nice gooey s’more cooked over the fire during the fall months. Unfortunately most graham crackers available in stores are full of bleached enriched flour, sugar, hydrogenated oils and other ingredients you might be trying to steer clear of. That’s where this easy and awesome healthier graham cracker recipe comes in! It’s a pretty darn good healthier version:)

{Just so you know.. you have to let the dough sit in the fridge for a while before rolling them out so don’t try to make them right before you want to eat them!}

What You’ll Need For Healthier Graham Crackers

1 Cup whole wheat flour/Graham flour (this will give it the signature graham crockery taste but it’s hard to find- health food stores or online)
7 Tablespoons Honey(or 3 tbsp honey and 4 tbsp of your preferred sweetener)
1/4 cup coconut oil(melted)
1 1/2 tbsp molasses
1 tbsp water
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp baking soda

What to do

-Mix all dry ingredients(whole wheat flour, cinnamon, baking soda& possibly sugar ) in a large bowl

-Pour honey, molasses and coconut oil in a smaller microwavable bowl and warm them up until coconut oil is melted enough to mix in easily(no chunks) this shouldn’t take long.

-Add vanilla and water to heated liquids and stir them all together then add them to the dry mix and stir or use a mixer until everything is nice and mixed together.

-Once this is done, put the mixture in the fridge for an hour or so and check on it. Don’t leave it too long or it will harden too much because of the coconut oil and you’ll have to let it sit out to warm up for a few minutes. I’d recommend checking on it a few times to see the consistency.

-After you’ve taken it out of the fridge put it onto wax paper and lay another piece of wax paper over it  and begin rolling out the dough. You’re going to want it to be pretty thin. After it’s rolled out cut your crackers into whatever shape you’d like them to be!  Then take the scraps and re roll and cut again until you’ve used all your dough. If you want to poke holes in them like real graham crackers now is the time!

-Make sure to grease the pan however you prefer so that they don’t stick! Oven should be preheated to 350 degrees and the crackers will cook anywhere from 5- 10 minutes depending on how thin they are so I’d recommend checking on them throughout the cook time!

-Let them cool and you’ve got yourself healthier graham crackers for your fall s’more eating needs!:)
